"Hou Beiren + Hernan Gana: Homeland In My Mind" to Open in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Contempor'ati Studios today announced the opening of its exhibition "Hou Beiren + Hernan Gana:  Homeland in My Mind" featuring California-based, Master Chinese Literati artist, Hou Beiren, and Chilean environmental landscape artist, Hernan Gana.  The exhibition opens during Asia Week San Francisco at the Pacific Heritage Museum beginning October 5th, 2017 (5:00pm-7:30pm) and runs through April 1st, 2018.

"While these artists are separated by over 50 years, Hou Beiren's works presented together with Mr. Gana's will make the audience think more deeply about how nostalgically beautiful the literati landscapes are compared with those resulting from the man-made impact of climate change on our environment," said Jean Song, Founder of Contempor'ati Studios and curator of the exhibition.

"Hou Beiren and Hernan Gana interpret the world around them in vastly different ways," said Mark Barnekow, Executive Producer of the exhibition.  "This exhibit's juxtaposition of idealistic landscapes with natural disasters portrays how climate change may continue to alter the earth and our lives."

Hou Beiren is one of the greatest Chinese artists of the 20th century and a trailblazer in Chinese splash color ink art. Hou Beiren, who is also a poet, as well as a painter, celebrated his 101st birthday this year.  His works can be found in the Hou Beiren Museum in Kunshan, China and the Liaoning Provincial Museum, Hou Beiren and Zhang Yunqing (his wife) Pavillion in Liaoning Province.  Hernan Gana held his first painting exhibition in Santiago, Chile when he was just 17 years old.  Since then, he has become one of Chile and South America's most beloved artists known mostly for his ability to hold a mirror to man's impact on the environment.  The exhibition, "Hou Beiren + Hernan Gana:  Homeland in My Mind" will travel in the US and China.

The Pacific Heritage Museum is open weekly Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 10am to 4pm. Admission is free. Tel: (415) 399-1124.
